Tears of the Giraffe
by Alexander McCall Smith
A delightful sequel to the delightful The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. Precious Ramotswe handles a typical adultery case as well as an atypical cold case concerning the disappearance of a foreigner. In between she and faces some challenges and surprises with her new fiancé.
Adding it on my shelf.

The Golden Nineties
by Lisa Mason
This is a time travel tale of a 25th century convict who "volunteers" for on a mission to 1895 San Francisco. The fact that she's female and Chinese complicates the assignment in that racist and sexist setting. I pulled this one off the shelf and dusted it off for a reread. It was okay, but no better than waiting room material. I don't know why I hung onto it. Maybe because I had planned to pick up the first volume of the series, Summer of Love. Or maybe I was impressed back then by the picture Ms. Mason drew of 1890s San Francisco. Either way, I think I'm going to pass this tome on and make space for something more satisfying.
