The High King

by Lloyd Alexander

First read in July of 2005

Back in the summer of 2005, I read through the five volume Prydain Chronicles. When I finished this, the fifth and final volume, I thought it was great and wanted to put it on my shelf. Now, in 2018, I reread the book out of the blue. I discovered this is not a book to read out of sequence. I remembered the main characters, but the story had so many references to characters and events I had forgotten from the previous volumes, that I felt I was missing half of the story. That said, it still was an enjoyable tale. Maybe only waiting room material this time around, but still enjoyable.

The High King

by Lloyd Alexander

On my shelf? Hmmm, that's what I typed a number of months ago, back when I didn't have time to write more than a rating. Oh, well. I don't remember much about the book, save that it finishes the overall tale of Taran and his friends that started in The Book of Three. Apparently it was good enough for me to keep. (Not that it's my decision, seeing how this series was purchased by my wife for the kids. You wouldn't believe the hassles I would have to endure if I tried to toss one of their books.)

The Book of Three

by Lloyd Alexander

The first of five books telling the adventures of Taran, an assistant pig-keeper, in a long ago land inspired by Welsh hero tales. It's real light reading and not much of the story stuck in my brain, but I do remember it was fun. If you're looking for a light fantasy, check this out.
